Inflation and Job Creation Policies â⬠MyAssignmenthelp.com
Question: Discuss about the Inflation and Job Creation Policies. Answer: Introduction Stability in an economy refers to a stable condition in different macroeconomic indicators. For any single market, equilibrium is ensured by the demand and supply condition in the market. Once equilibrium is determined in the market demand and supply forces interact to maintain stability. The operation of price mechanism as an invisible hand restores equilibrium. The concept of microeconomic stability is needed to understand macroeconomic stability. However, it macroeconomic stability should analyzed with a broad spectrum. In this paper, economic stability of Australia is discussed under the purview of indicators such as gross domestic product, inflation, unemployment and external stability. Stability symbolizes a resting state that can be restored without any exogenous forces. The adjustment of stability is best understood in terms of microeconomic stability in terms of supply and demand forces. The equilibrium outcome from the above figure is obtained as P* as equilibrium price and Q* as equilibrium price. Consider price revised upward to P1. At an increased price, demand decreases while supply increases. An excess supply resulted from this fact. The excess supply will be absorbed only when there is a reduction is price. Therefore, price starts falling. This will continue unless price reaches to the original equilibrium position P*. Conversely, the adjustment is opposite when price falls below the equilibrium price say at P2. At the price an excess demand is resulted from the fact that demand at this price exceeds its existing supply (Zinn et al., 2016). To cut the demand price has to be increased from P2. Therefore, price again moves towards equilibrium price. This explains why E is a stable equilibrium point. Any deviation from E moves back to this point without any intervention. The stability adjusts is autonomous. The aspect is broad when the overall economy is concerned. The demand and supply forces considered here are the forces of aggregated demand and aggregate supply. Aggregate supply is summation of expenditure in an economy. In captures the overall demand of the economy. It is also considered as planned expenditure. Aggregate supply represents actual expenditure of the economy. Government intervention and health of the economy Stability for the economy as a whole needs consideration on a broad spectrum. The forces of aggregate demand and aggregate supply cannot always maintain economic stability autonomously. In this situation, government policy intervention becomes necessary. Government has two major policy tools to intervene in an economy. One is fiscal policy instrument and other is monetary policy instrument. Fiscal policy uses tools of direct taxation or government spending to affect GDP of the economy (Goodwin et al., 2013). Monetary policy tool is used for maintaining stability of the price level. Monetary policy works using through adjustment available money supply. Government uses other stabilization instrument to maintain stability in the economy. Australia is a market dependent economy. There is no centralized planning following which economic activities are guided. Major decisions are taken in the economy in the marketplace through interaction of demand and supply forces. Australia engages in international affairs thorough trade, investment and other transaction (Groenewegen McFarlane, 2014). Hence, stability for the external economies also matters for Australian economy. GDP stands for representing market values of goods and services in an economy. The goods and services produced within the economy is computed using the market value of goods and services produced. In Australia, Australian Bureau of Labor statistics computes GDP statistic (rba.gov.au, 2017). A stable GDP implies stability for the economy. However, GDP is not a complete measure of well being. Still it is considered as a primary determinant factor of stability. From the above GDP statistics, a stable trend in GDP is obtained for the last ten years. GDP grows overtime in Australia, which implies stability in income and other related indicators. As mentioned earlier GDP alone cannot give complete scenario of the economy. Therefore, other indicators need to be evaluated. One such important indicator is unemployment statistics. The division of working age population in Australia is given in the following flow chart. The problem of unemployment substantially reduced overtime. Unemployment rate peaked up in 2009, partly due to global recession in 2008. After that, unemployment remains almost stable (Gregory Smith, 2016). People in Australia remain unemployed for a comparatively for a short time period. Approximately 60 percent of workforce those remain unemployed was unemployed for less than six month. Nearly 44 percent was unemployed for less than 13 weeks. Overall stability of the economy is measured in terms of inflation trend. Fluctuation in the price level indicates unstable condition for the economy. Australia is successful in maintain a stable state of price level. Inflation rate reduces gradually and remain at a moderate to low level (worldbank.org, 2017). Automatic stabilizer and Discretionary stabilizers are used for maintain stability in the crisis period. Automatic stabilizers are developed using direct tool of direct tax or government spending. However, Automatic stabilizers do not have direct influence on federal policy structure. Discretionary stabilizers are intensive measures for maintaining stability. Government here introduces new types of tax or makes some significant changes in its policy framework. Conclusion The report aimed at conduction a research analysis on economic stability and particular areas of government intervention for maintaining for maintaining a good health of the economy. Microeconomic stability is restored with the adjustment of price mechanism. In case of macroeconomic stability, aggregate demand and aggregate supply are considered and government often actively intervenes to maintain stability of the economy. Particular focus is given on the Australian economy. Australia maintains a stable state in its GDP, inflation and unemployment level. Moreover, there are stabilization instrument to maintain stability for Australian economy. References Australia Inflation Rate | 1951-2017 | Data | Chart | Calendar | Forecast. Vangogh Essays - Vincent Van Gogh, Van Goghs Family In His Art
Vangogh The rapid evolution of a style characterized by canvases filled with swirling, bright colors depicting people and nature is the essence of Vincent Van Gogh's extremely prolific but tragically short career. Vincent Willem van Gogh was born on March 30, 1853, in Holland, son of a Dutch Protestant pastor and eldest of six children. His favorite brother Theo was four years younger. When Vincent was twelve to sixteen years old, he went to a boarding school. That next year he was sent to The Hague to work for an uncle who was an art dealer, but van Gogh was unsuited for a business career. Actually, his early interests were in literature and religion. Very dissatisfied with the way people made money and imbued with a strong sense of mission, he worked for a while as a lay preacher among proverty-stricken miners. Van Gogh represented the religious society that trained him in a poor coal-mining district in Belgium. Vincent took his work so seriously that he went without food and other necessities so he could give more to the poor. The missionary society objected to Vincent's behavior and fired him in 1879. Heartsick, van Gogh struggled to keep going socially and fin! ancially, yet he was always rejected by other people, and felt lost and forsaken. Then, in 1880, at age 27, he became obsessed with art. The intensity he had for religion, he now focused on art. His early drawings were crude but strong and full of feeling: "It is a hard and a difficult struggle to learn to draw well... I have worked like a slave ...." His first paintings had been still lifes and scenes of peasants at work. "That which fills my head and heart must be expressed in drawings and in pictures...I'm in a rage of work." In 1881, he moved to Etten. He very much liked pictures of peasant life and labor. Jean-Francois Millet was the first to paint this as a main theme and his works influenced van Gogh. His first paintings here were crude but improving. Van Gogh's progress was interrupted by an intense love for his widowed cousin Kee Vos. On her decisive rejection of him he pursued her to Amsterdam, only to suffer more humiliation. Anton Mauve, a leading member of the Hague school was a cousin of van Gogh's mother. This opportunity to be taught by him encouraged van Gogh to settle in Den Hague with Theo's support. When van Gogh left Den Hague in September 1883 for the northern fenland of Drenth, he did so with mixed feelings. He spent hours wandering the countryside, making sketches of the landscape, but began to feel isolated and concerned about the future. He had rented a little attic in a house but found it melancholy, and was depressed with the quality of his equipment. "Everything is too miserable, too insufficient, too dilapidated." Physically and mentally unable to cope with these conditions any longer, he left for his parents' new home in Nuenen in December 1883. Van Gogh had a phase in which he loved to paint birds and bird's nests. This phase did not last long. It only lasted until his father's death six months later. "The Family Bible" which he painted just before leaving his house for good, six months after his father's death in 1885, must have meant a great deal to him. Van Gogh had broken with Christianity when he was fired from the missionary which proved to be the most painful experience of his life, and one from which he never quite recovered. At Nuenen, van Gogh gave active physical toil a remarkable reality. It's impact went far beyond what the realist Gustave Corbet had achieved and beyond even the quasi-religious images of Jean-Francois Millet. He made a number of studies of peasant hands and heads before embarking on what would be his most important work at Nuenen. The pinnacle of his work in Holland was The Potato Eaters, a scene painted in April 1885 that shows the working day to be over. It was the last and most ambitious painting of his pre-Impressionist period, 1880-1885. When van Gogh painted the The Potato Eaters, he had not yet discovered the importance of color. Van Gogh went to Antwerp in November 1885, partly to escape local gossip. He vainly attempted to make money from painting portraits, townscapes, and trades men's signs. Then he enrolled at the

How to Raise Your GPA in High School Class Strategies
How to Raise Your GPA in High School Class Strategies SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips The road to a good GPA can be paved with setbacks, but if you figure out where your problems lie and put in the effort to get yourself back on track, you can overcome these obstacles. In this article, Iââ¬â¢ve compiled a list of dos and donââ¬â¢ts that will be helpful to you in combating academic pitfalls (and learning to avoid them in the first place!). Read on to figure out how you can improve your GPA by paying attention to your areas of weakness, taking responsibility, and cultivating better study habits. DO's This list includes my best advice on how to change your behavior to reverse negative trends in your GPA. It's best to start by getting a good handle on the fundamental grading structure of the courses where you're having trouble and work your way up to better study habits and strategies. Understand the Course's Grading Scheme The first step in improving your GPA is understanding how you will be graded and which assignments carry the most weight. In some classes, for example, homework assignments might be worth 30% of your grade. If you consistently forget to do homework assignments, you'll be in for a world of hurt when you see your report card even if you did well on all of the tests. Thatââ¬â¢s why itââ¬â¢s critical to pay attention to the grading methodology. Read the grading guidelines for each class thoroughly. Your teacher probably handed them out to the class at the very beginning of the year, so if you can't find yours just ask for another copy. The guidelines are there to tell you what the expectations are and where you need to focus your effort in the class.Donââ¬â¢t ignore the emphasis that a teacher places on certain aspects of your work and class conduct. If youââ¬â¢re aware of the expectations, itââ¬â¢s impossible to remain in denial about whatââ¬â¢s causing your bad grades, which meansyou can start fixing your bad habits and improve! Focus on the Most Important Areas Once youââ¬â¢ve reviewed the grading guidelines, you'll have a better sense of where you should be focusing most of your efforts. Some classes emphasize tests and little else.Others include lab assignments, homework assignments, or papers that strongly influence your final grade.Whatever the case may be, you should alignyour study schedule with the grading policy. This means you shouldn't spend tons of time on a small project that will have minimal impact on your grade or toilaway at ungraded homework assignments late into the night.Though I always recommend at least trying to do the homework (as youââ¬â¢ll see in the next piece of advice), donââ¬â¢t waste hours of your time trying to figure out a tough problem that has stumped you if homework isnââ¬â¢t a largepart of your grade.Do as much as you can while making time for more important tasks. If you have trouble on a homework assignment, most teachers will go over the answers with you later to help you understand the material. They'll appreciate that you at least made an honest effort to complete it on your own. If a project, paper, or test will comprise a large fraction of your final grade, make sure you put yourself in the best position to do a good job. This means planning out your studying far in advance or setting up a schedule for when you will complete each stage of a project. If you put in the time, your efforts will be reflected in your grades. A disturbing street sign to see if you're actually driving, but an inspiring one for the purposes of this article Always Do the Homework, Especially in Math and Science I had many math classes in high school where it didnââ¬â¢t technically matter if you did the homework problem sets. We would go over them together in class, but the teacher never went around and checked whether each person did the assignment. In such a situation, itââ¬â¢s tempting to skip homework since it doesnââ¬â¢t seem like it will impact your grade. But the fact is that this WILL have an indirect negative impact once you're faced with tests and other large assessments. With math and science in particular, knowledge builds on itself. If you donââ¬â¢t understand one unit in math because you didnââ¬â¢t bother figuring out any problems for yourself in the homework assignments, chances are youââ¬â¢re going to have an even tougher time with the next unit. This is how people end up falling farther and farther behind.By the time theyââ¬â¢re faced with a test that covers multiple units that they didnââ¬â¢t understand, they realize too late that they should have put in the work earlier. If this tends to happen to you, you may need to be stricter about forcing yourself to do homework assignments even if they ââ¬Å"donââ¬â¢t matterâ⬠in and of themselves. Ask for Help If You Donââ¬â¢t Understand Something If youââ¬â¢re struggling with a concept in any of your classes, speak to your teacher as soon as possible to clear up any confusion. It can be difficult to swallow your pride and admit that you donââ¬â¢t understand something, but itââ¬â¢s much easier than dealing with a failing grade later.Again, this is especially important in math and science classes where knowledge builds on itself. You absolutely need to understand basic concepts at the root of what youââ¬â¢re doing before you can progress.Donââ¬â¢t let these concepts pass you by and hope that youââ¬â¢ll somehow catch on later. If you feel nervous about asking for help and aren't sure what to say, you might start with something like this, "I'm having trouble with [subject] and was hoping you could give me some extra guidance. I'll come up with a list of my questions if you're willing to meet sometime after school this week." If you're really shy and don't want to ask your teacher in person (although I would recommend that you do), you can send an email instead so you have more time to think of what to say. Remember that you shouldn't be worried. Even if you ask the grumpiest teacher for help, you're likely to be met with a positive response. Teachers love to see students who are engaged with their classes and are making an honest effort to understand the material. Push the button. Know Whatââ¬â¢s Being Tested and How Before any test, ask your teacher what concepts will be tested and which types of questions youââ¬â¢ll see. This will help guide your studying and lead to less stress and anxiety when it comes to actually taking the exam. Some teachers might be willing to show you examples of their old testswith similar formats but different questions. These are very useful study materials.Teachers may also offer extra review sessions for students who are looking for more guidance before the test.If this is the case in any of your classes, take advantage of it. You can also ask the teacher if he or she would be willing to do this for a specific test that makes you especially nervous. There are some teachers out there who don't like to tell you what types of questions will be on the test. Don't panic if this is the case. Even these teachers will at least tell you the gist of what's being covered. Even though you'll have less information, you'll still know which materials to study. Just make sure you're as thorough as possible in your review sessions. Study Smart: Know the Difference Between Reading It Over and ââ¬Å"Getting Itâ⬠So you have to study for a history test, and your teacher gives you some review sheets of the information you need to know - what do you do now? Some people think ââ¬Å"oh, Iââ¬â¢ll just read the review sheets a couple of times, and Iââ¬â¢ll pretty much know everything I need for the testâ⬠.Unless you have a photographic memory, this isnââ¬â¢t the most effective method. You have no way of knowing what will happen when you're asked tocome up with this information after itââ¬â¢s no longer in front of you.Twenty-fourhours later it might be completely lost. While youââ¬â¢re reviewing information that you need to know for a test, read each section or set of facts in your notes, and then look away from them and test yourself.Restate the information in your mind to yourself and/or come up with a totally ridiculous way to remember it (the more absurd and stupid the more likely it is to stick in your brain). After youââ¬â¢ve done this exercise a few times, have a friend, sibling, or parent help you by asking questions about the information. If you know the test will have open response questions, practice connecting different pieces of information in conjunction with basic memorization.Tell a study partner to ask you questions like ââ¬Å"what were the causes of [historical event]?â⬠This will force you to connect different details and gain a more solid grasp on the knowledge youââ¬â¢ll need for the test. Study Smart 2.0: Practice Responsible Study Habits I mentioned above that getting your peers to help you with studying is a good strategy. However, this only works in moderation. Studying with your friends can be great, but studying shouldnââ¬â¢t always be a group effort.Sometimes the focus gets diverted, or you end up convincing each other that you all understand something when only one person really does. Reserve time afterwards to briefly review the information on your own. Also, turn your phone off or put it away while you're studying. Believe me, I know how hard this is. I sleep with my iPhone under my pillow. But if you're going to get some high quality studying done, you can't allow yourself to be distracted by SnapChats or whatever other examples of popular apps I might give that will soon sound ridiculously outdated. The best thing you can do to make the most of your study sessions is to turn off your phone and block distracting websites from your computer so that you won't be tempted to veer off course. Instead of studying, let's just make fun of the one person who isn't here today. Review Your Mistakes In the process of improving your GPA, youââ¬â¢ll probably face some setbacks. How you react to those setbacks makes a big difference. If you get a bad grade on a test, you might not even want to look at your mistakes, but to improve you need to understand where you went wrong.Reviewing mistakes thoroughly is the only way to ensure that you donââ¬â¢t make them again. Even abstract mistakes, like failing to fully explain your ideas in a paper, are worth reviewing. You might not fully agree with your teacherââ¬â¢s opinion about your writing, but it can provide valuable insight into what he or she expects from you.You can then make an active decision the next time you write something to do it in a way that follows the appropriate standards (I know, this is not very punk rock - Iââ¬â¢m sorry). Avoid Procrastination I know people who procrastinate to severe panic attack levels while managing to do very well in school and work. The truth is, however, that these people are in the extreme minority. If youââ¬â¢re already struggling in your classes, resist the allure of waiting until the night before to do a project or cramming for a big test. Procrastination can seem glamorous (we all want to be the cool kid who never does anything until the night before and gets all As), but itââ¬â¢s not a wise strategy for most students. If you have problems with procrastination, plan out a schedule beforehand when your teachers hand out assignments. For a project thatââ¬â¢s due in a month, set up informal deadlines for yourself that cover different aspects of the project. You might even be able to ask your teacher to check in with you and hold you accountable. If you have a test coming up and you donââ¬â¢t feel prepared, set up a study schedule a week in advance so you can avoid cramming. What procrastination will do to you DON'Ts This second section is all about the pitfalls to avoid when you're struggling with your grades. Surrendering to these negative attitudes and patterns of behavior will only hurt you in the long run! Blame the Teacher The first thing many students do when they get a bad grade is blame the teacher.Itââ¬â¢s understandable - you donââ¬â¢t want to think that yougenuinelyearned a bad grade. Itââ¬â¢s easier to shift responsibility away from yourself so you donââ¬â¢t have to make any difficult changes. What you need to understand is that when you do this, youââ¬â¢re ultimately sabotaging yourself (unless your teacher is Dolores Umbridge or something). There are bad teachers out there, but they canââ¬â¢t just decide to give you bad grades if you follow their standards. This goes back to understanding how the course will be graded and how much weight is given to certain assignments.Make sure you ask your teacher exactly what is expected of you.It might feel like you'repandering to someone you donââ¬â¢t respect, but if you end up with a bad grade, youââ¬â¢ll be the one who loses out in the end. Obviously, you should speak up to people in higher authority if your teacher is being grossly unfair. If youââ¬â¢re honest with yourself you should be able to tell the difference between malicious injustice and differing standards. She should have been fired just for this outfit, am I right? Compare Yourself to Others Thereââ¬â¢s nothing more frustrating than hearing that one casually smart kid in your class say that he didnââ¬â¢t study at all for the test and got an A.When you hear stuff like this, you should keep in mind two things: This person is probably stretching the truth to show off. Everyone has different learning styles, and itââ¬â¢s better to learn good study habits now so you can figure out what works for you. You know what youââ¬â¢re already good at and what you need to work harder to master, and you shouldnââ¬â¢t consider yourself dumber than another person if it takes you a little longer to understand something.Persevering through these challenges will give you the type of mental strength that is critical in college and the real world beyond.Kids who breeze through high school may have trouble dealing with setbacks later on when they have to really stretch themselves to succeed (believe me, Iââ¬â¢ve experienced the stress of this first-hand). Remember, regardless of the effort that anyone else is putting in, only you know yourself well enough to judge how much time you need to study for a test or learn a new concept. This type of self-awareness helps build skill sets that will help you later in life! Throw in the Towel If you have a GPA that seems hopelessly low, you may be tempted to stop trying to fix it and just give in to the ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m not cut out for schoolâ⬠mentality. Yes, itââ¬â¢s discouraging to have a low GPA, but before you give up, think about whether changing your habits could make a difference. What caused you to end up with a low GPA?It could be anything from struggles in your personal life to irresponsible study habits to misunderstandings about class requirements.Whatever the case, nothing that youââ¬â¢ve done in the past to end up with a low GPA has to define what you do going forward (unless youââ¬â¢re still struggling with personal issues - please get help if so!). You have the ability to turn over a new leaf, especially if itââ¬â¢s still early in your high school career. Also, not everyone HAS to go to a four-year college. You might have a professional field in mind that requires hands-on training but not a bachelorââ¬â¢s degree. No matter what, donââ¬â¢t lose hope for your future! Don't throw me in, you're my beeeest friend Summary Here's a consolidated list of all the tips included in this article: 1. Understand the course's grading scheme2. Focus on the most important areas3. Always do the homework (especially in math and science)4. Ask for help if you don't understand something5. Know what's being tested and how6. Rather than talking in general terms about "help," let's first clarify the two different ways that someone else can improve your writing. Editing Editing is helping the author (in this case, you) go from a rough draft to a finished work. Editing is the process of asking questions about what you're saying, how you're saying it, and how you're organizing your ideas. But not all editing isgood editing. In fact, it's very easy for an editor to cross the line from supportive to overbearing and over-involved. Whatââ¬â¢s Good Editing? Ability to clarify assignments. A good editor is usually a good writer, and certainly has to be a good reader. For example, in this case, a good editor should make sureyou understand the actual essay promptyouââ¬â¢re supposed to be answering. Open-endedness. Good editing is all aboutasking questions about your ideas and work, butwithout providing answers. It's about lettingyou stick to your story and message, and doesn't alter your point of view. Objectivity. It's usually better for an editor tonot be emotionally involved with what youââ¬â¢re writing. For example, if your essay is about a parent, that parent should probably notedit your work.Good editing can also be a preview ofhow a reader will respond to what youââ¬â¢re writing, pointing out potentially confusing or offensive moments in your work. Great editors show you the many available paths, but don't tell you where to go. What Should an Editor Do For You? Think of an editor as a great travel guide. It can show you the many different places your trip could take you. It should explain any parts of the trip that could derail your trip or confuse the traveler. But it never dictates your path, never forces you to go somewhere you don't want to go, and never ignores your interests so that thetrip no longer seems like it's your own. So what should good editors do? Help Brainstorm Topics Sometimes itââ¬â¢s easier to bounce thoughtsoff of someone else. This doesnââ¬â¢t mean that your editorgets to come up with ideas, but they can certainly respond to the various topic optionsyou've come up with. This way, youââ¬â¢re less likely to write about the most boring of your ideas, or towrite about something that isnââ¬â¢t actually important to you. If you're wondering how to come up with options for your editor to consider, check outour guide to brainstorming topics for your college essay. Help Revise Your Drafts Here, your editor can't upset the delicate balance of not intervening too much or too little. It's tricky, but a great way to think about it is to remember: editing isabout asking questions, not giving answers. Revision questions shouldpoint out: Places where more detail or more description would help thereaderconnect with youressay Places where structure and logic donââ¬â¢t flow, losing the reader's attention Places where there arenââ¬â¢t transitions between paragraphs, confusing the reader Moments where your narrative or the argumentsyou're making are unclear But pointing to potential problems is not the same as actually rewriting ââ¬â editors let authors fix the problems themselves. A good editor's favorite punctuation mark. What Kind of Editing Should You Avoid? Bad editing is usually very heavy-handed editing. Instead of helping you find your best voice and ideas, a bad editor changes your writing into their own vision. You may be dealing with a bad editor if they: Add material (examples, descriptions) that doesnââ¬â¢t come from you Use a thesaurus to makeyour collegeessay sound "more mature" Add meaning or insight to the essay that doesnââ¬â¢t come from you Tell you what to say and how to say it Write sentences, phrases, and paragraphs for you Change your voice in the essay so it no longer sounds like it was written by a teenager Colleges can tell the difference between a 17-year-old's writing and a 50-year-old's writing. Not only that, they have access to your SAT or ACT Writing section, so they can compare your essay to something elseyou wrote. Writing that's a little more polished is great and expected. But a totally different voice and style will raise questions. Where's the Line Between Helpful Editing and Unethical Over-Editing? Sometimes it's hard to tell whether your college essay editor is doing the right thing. Here are some guidelines for staying on the ethicalside of the line. An editor should say that theopening paragraph is kind of boring, and explain what exactly is making it drag. But it's overstepping for an editor to tell you exactly how to change it. An editor should point out where yourprose isunclearor vague. But it's completely inappropriate for the editor to rewrite that section of your essay. An editor should let you know that a section is light on detail or description. But giving you similes and metaphors to beef up that description is a no-go. With a good editor, these things will always only come from the author's head. Proofreading Proofreading (also called copy-editing) is checking for errors in the last draft of a written work. It happens at the end of the process and is meant as the final polishing touch. Proofreading is meticulous and detail-oriented, focusing on small corrections. It sands off all the surface rough spots that could alienate the reader. Because proofreading is usually concerned with making fixes on the word or sentence level, this is the only processwhere someone else can actually add to or take away things from youressay. This is because what they are adding or taking away tends to be one or two misplaced letters. Whatââ¬â¢s Good Proofreading? Laser focus. Proofreading is all about the tiny details, so the ability to really concentrate on finding small slip-ups is a must. Excellent grammar and spelling skills. Proofreaders need to dot every "i" and cross every "t." Good proofreadersshould correctspelling, punctuation, capitalization, and grammar. They should put foreign words in italics and surround quotations with quotation marks. They should check that you used the correct college's name, and that you adhered to anyformatting requirements (name and date at the top of the page, uniform font and size, uniform spacing). Limited interference. A proofreader needs to make surethat you followed any word limits. But if cuts need to be made to shorten the essay, thatââ¬â¢s your job andnot the proofreader's. Proofreaders are like entomologists, hunting for tiny specks amidst a vast landscape. What Kind of Proofreading Should You Avoid? A bad proofreader either tries to turn into an editor, or just lacks the skills and knowledge necessary to do the job. Some signs that you're working with a bad proofreader are: If they suggest making major changes to the final draft of your essay. Proofreading happens when editing is already finished. If they aren't particularly good at spelling, or don't know grammar, or aren't detail-oriented enough to find someone else's small mistakes. If they start swapping out your words for fancier-sounding synonyms, or changing the voice and sound of your essay in other ways. A proofreader is there to check for errors, not to take the 17-year-old out of your writing. Does your proofreader's desk look like this? Maybe not the right person for the job... What Do Colleges Think of Your Getting Help With Your Essay? Admissions officers agree: light editing and proofreading aregood ââ¬â even required! But they also want to make sure youââ¬â¢re the one doing the work on your essay. They want essays with stories, voice, and themes that come from you. They want to see workthat reflects your actual writing ability, and that focuses on what you find important. On the Importance of Editing Get feedback. Have a fresh pair of eyes give you some feedback. Donââ¬â¢t allow someone else to rewrite your essay, but do take advantage of othersââ¬â¢ edits and opinions when they seem helpful. (Bates College) Read your essay aloud to someone. Reading the essay out loud offers a chance to hear how your essay sounds outside your head. This exercise reveals flaws in the essayââ¬â¢s flow, highlights grammatical errors and helps you ensure that you are communicating the exact message you intended. (Dickinson College) On the Value of Proofreading Share your essays with at least one or two people who know you well ââ¬â such as a parent, teacher, counselor, or friend ââ¬â and ask for feedback. Remember that you ultimately have control over your essays, and your essays should retain your own voice, but others may be able to catch mistakes that you missed and help suggest areas to cut if you are over the word limit. (Yale University) Proofread and then ask someone else to proofread for you. Although we want substance, we also want to be able to see that you can write a paper for our professors and avoid careless mistakes that would drive them crazy. (Oberlin College) On Watching Out for Too Much Outside Influence Limit the number of people who review your essay. Too much input usually means your voice is lost in the writing style. (Carleton College) Ask for input (but not too much). Your parents, friends, guidance counselors, coaches, and teachers are great people to bounce ideas off of for your essay. They know how unique and spectacular you are, and they can help you decide how to articulate it. Keep in mind, however, that a 45-year-old lawyer writes quite differently from an 18-year-old student, so if your dad ends up writing the bulk of your essay, weââ¬â¢re probably going to notice. (Vanderbilt University) So, basically, a big old thumbs up on the whole "get someone to look at your essay" situation, as far as colleges are concerned. Who Can/Should Help You? Now let's talk about some potential people to approach for your college essay editing and proofreading needs. It's best to start close to home and slowly expand outward. Not only are your family and friends more invested in your success than strangers, but they also have a better handle on your interests and personality. This knowledge is key for judging whether your essay is expressing your true self. Parents or Close Relatives Your family may be full ofpotentially excellent editors!Parents are deeply committed to your well-being, and family members know you and your life well enough to offer details or incidents that can be included in your essay. On the other hand, the rewriting process necessarily involves criticism, which is sometimes hard to hear from someone very close to you. A parent or close family memberis a great choice for an editor if you can answer "yes" to the followingquestions. Is your parent or close relative a good writer or reader?Do you have a relationship where editing your essay wonââ¬â¢t create conflict? Are you able to constructively listen to criticism and suggestion from the parent? One suggestion for defusingface-to-face discussions is to try working on the essay over email. Send your parenta draft, have themwrite you back some comments, and then you can pick which of their suggestionsyou want to use and which to discard. Teachers or Tutors A humanities teacher thatyou have a good relationship with isa great choice.I am purposefully saying humanities, and not just English, because teachers of Philosophy, History, Anthropology, and any other classes where you do a lot of writing, areall used to reviewing student work. Moreover, any teacher or tutor that has been working with you for some time, knows you very well and can vet the essay to make sure itââ¬Å"sounds like you.â⬠If your teacher or tutor has some experience withwhat college essays are supposed to be like, ask them to be your editor. If not, then ask whether they have time to proofread your final draft. Guidance or College Counselor at Your School The best thing about asking your counselor to edit your workis that this is their job. This means that they have a very good sense of what colleges are looking for in an application essay. At the same time, school counselorstend to have relationships with admissions officers in many colleges, which again gives them insight into what worksand which college is focused on what aspect of the application. Unfortunately, in many schools the guidance counselortends to be way overextended. If your ratio is 300 students to 1college counselor, youââ¬â¢re unlikely to get that personââ¬â¢s undivided attention and focus. It isstill useful to ask them for general advice about your potential topics, but don't expect them to be able to stay with your essay from first draft to final version. Friends, Siblings, or Classmates Although they most likely don't have much experience with what colleges are hoping to see, your peers are excellent sources for checking that your essay is you. Friends and siblings are perfect for the read-aloud edit. Read your essay to them so they can listen for words and phrases that are stilted, pompous, or phrases that just donââ¬â¢t sound like you. You can even trade essays and give helpful advice on each other's work. "I loved that part when you wrote Baa-aaa-baaa. But I feel like you should add some more details to that Baaa-baa-aaa section." "Oh, thanks, man. You're the baaa-est." Advice for Editors If your editor hasn't worked with college admissions essays very much, no worries! Any astute and attentive reader can still greatly help with your process. But, as in all things, beginners do better with some preparation. First, your editor should read our advice about how towrite a college essay introduction, how to spot and fix a bad college essay, and get a sense of what other students have written by going through some admissions essays that worked. Then, as they read your essay, they can work through the following series of questions that will helpthem to guide you. Introduction Questions Is the first sentence a killer opening line? Why or why not? Does the introduction hook the reader? Does it have a colorful, detailed, and interesting narrative? Or does it propose a compelling or surprising idea? Can you feel the author's voice in the introduction, or is the tone dry, dull, or overly formal? Show the places where the voice comes through. Essay Body Questions Does the essay have a through-line? Is it built around a central argument, thought, idea, or focus? Can you put this idea into your own words? How is the essay organized? By logical progression? Chronologically? Do you feel order when you read it, or are there moments where you are confused or lose the thread of the essay? Does the essay have both narratives about the author's life and explanations and insight into what these stories reveal about the author's character, personality, goals, or dreams? If not, which is missing? Does the essay flow? Are there smooth transitions/clever links between paragraphs?Between the narrative and moments of insight? Reader Response Questions Does the writerââ¬â¢s personality come through? Do we know what the speaker cares about? Do we get a sense of ââ¬Å"who he or she isâ⬠? Where did you feel most connected to the essay? Which parts of the essay gave you a "you are there" sensation by invoking your senses? What moments could you picture in your head well? Where are the details and examples vague and not specific enough? Did you get an "a-ha!" feeling anywhere in the essay? Is there a moment of insight that connected all the dots for you? Is there a good reveal or "twist" anywhere in the essay? What are the strengths of this essay? What needs the most improvement? Editing is just like fixing a guitar. Except, you know, without a screwdriver. And you don't need to know anything about guitars. Should You Pay Money for Essay Editing? One alternative to asking someone you know to help you with your college essay is the paid editor route. There are two different ways to pay for essay help: a private essay coach or a less personal editing service, like the many proliferating on the internet. My advice is to think of these options as a last resort rather than your go-to first choice. I'll first go through the reasons why. Then, if you do decide to go with a paid editor, I'll help you decide between a coach and a service. When to Consider a Paid Editor In general, I think hiring someone to work on your essay makes a lot of sense if none of the people I discussed above are a possibility for you. If you can't ask your parents. For example, ifyour parents arenââ¬â¢t good writers, or if English isnââ¬â¢t their first language. Or ifyou think getting your parents to help is going create unnecessary extra conflict in your relationship with them (applying to college is stressful as it is!) If you can't ask your teacher or tutor. Maybeyou donââ¬â¢t have a trusted teacher or tutor that has time to look over your essay with focus. Or, for instance, your favorite humanities teacher has very limited experience with college essays and so wonââ¬â¢t know what admissions officers want to see. If you can't ask your guidance counselor. This could be because your guidance counselor is way overwhelmed with other students. If you can't share your essay with those who know you. It might be thatyour essay is on a very personal topic that youââ¬â¢re unwilling to share with parents, teachers, or peers. Just make sure it doesnââ¬â¢t fall into one of the bad-idea topics in our article on bad college essays. If the cost isn't a consideration. Many of these services are quite expensive, and private coaches even more so.If you have finite resources, Iââ¬â¢d say that hiring an SAT or ACT tutor (whether itââ¬â¢sPrepScholaror someone else) is better way to spend your money. This is because there's no guarantee that a slightly better essay will sufficiently elevate the rest of your application, but a significantly higher SAT score will definitely raise your applicant profile much more. Should You Hire an Essay Coach? On the plus side, essay coaches have read dozens or even hundreds of college essays, so they haveexperience with the format. Also, because you'll be working closely with a specific person, itââ¬â¢s more personal than sending your essay to a service, which will know even less about you. But, on the minus side, youââ¬â¢ll still be bouncing ideas off of someone who doesnââ¬â¢t know that much about you. In general, if you can adequately get the help from someone you know, there is no advantageto paying someone to help you. If you do decide to hire a coach, ask your school counselor, or older students that have used the service for recommendations. If you canââ¬â¢t afford the coachââ¬â¢s fees, ask whether they can work on a sliding scale - many do. And finally, beware those who guarantee admission to your school of choice ââ¬â essay coachesdon't have any special magic that can back up those promises. Should You Send Your Essay to a Service? On the plus side, essay editingservices provide a similar product to essay coaches, and they cost significantly less. If you have some assurance that you'll be working with a good editor, the lack of face-to-face interaction won't prevent great results. On the minus side, however, it can be difficult to gauge the quality of the service before working with them. If they are churning through many application essays without getting to know the students they are helping, you could end up with an over-edited essay that sounds just like everyone else's.In the worst case scenario, an unscrupulous service could send you back a plagiarized essay. Getting recommendations from friends or a school counselor for reputable services is key to avoiding heavy-handed editingthat writes essays for you or does too much to change your essay. Including a badly-edited essay like this in your application could cause problems if there are inconsistencies. For example, in interviews it might be clear you didnââ¬â¢t write the essay, or the skill of the essay mightnot be reflected in your schoolwork and test scores. Should You Buy an Essay Written by Someone Else? NO! Let me elaborate. There are super sketchy places on the internet where you can simply buy a pre-written essay. Donââ¬â¢t do this! For one thing, youââ¬â¢ll be lying on an official, signed document. All college applications make you sign a statement saying something like this: I certify that all information submitted in the admission process- including the application, the personal essay, any supplements, and any other supporting materials- is my own work, factually true, and honestly presented... I understand that I may be subject to a range of possible disciplinary actions, including admission revocation, expulsion, or revocation of course credit, grades, and degree, should the information I have certified be false. (From the Common Application) For another thing, if your academic record doesnââ¬â¢t match the essayââ¬â¢s quality, the admissions officer will start thinking your whole application is riddled with lies. Admission officers have full access to yourwriting portion of the SAT or ACT so that they can compare work that was done in proctored conditions with that done at home. They can tell if these were written by different people. Not only that, butthere are now a number of search engines that faculty and admission officers can use to see if an essay contains strings of words that have appeared in other essays ââ¬â you have no guarantee that the essay you bought wasnââ¬â¢t also bought by 50 other students. Don't be the guy trying to pass this off as your own original work. The Bottom Line You should get college essay help with both editing and proofreading A good editor will ask questions about your idea, logic, and structure, and will point out places where clarity is needed A good editor will absolutely not answer these questions, give you their own ideas, or write the essay or parts of the essay for you A good proofreader will find typos and check your formatting Colleges very much want to see your authentic self (your ideas, your insights, your writing ability, and style) on the page All of them agreethat getting light editing and proofreading isnecessary Look for admissions essay help from: Parents, teachers, guidance or college counselor, and peers or siblings If you can't ask any of those, you can payfor college essay help, but watch out for services or coaches whoover-edit you work Donââ¬â¢t buy a pre-written essay! Television programming Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Television programming - Essay Example These questions are basic essence of my research conducted and ABC channel being my prime lab rodent to experiment upon. What programs they air, why they air them and what strategy they are implying to attract the maximum number of audience in the post-dinner time. TV Ratings Any guesses how the intelligent people sitting in the ABC production offices know, when to air what, when most people are tuned in and most importantly which slots to offer the highest advertisement rate to add agencies and commercial vendors. The answer to this question lies in the name ââ¬Å"Nielsen ratingsâ⬠. It is an audience measurement system developed by Nielsen media research to do exactly the magic described above. The program uses set-meters, small devices installed behind television sets to monitor the channel activity and record time data of TV programs being watched at what time. A further sophisticated method implies that what audience is watching what. This is done by the help of viewers inp ut in the very same device. The audience enters this survey voluntarily and is a big help to create a data base and analysis which helps in securing maximum advertisement rates for the prime time slot (Frank, 20). American Broadcasting Company The TV channel under research is ABC. Some of the basic questions mentioned in the start of the paper will be answered with the help of forensic research into the media world of today where people can choose to record there TV shows and watch them add-less. What are they trying to accomplish? The basic purpose of any television broadcast company, to earn maximum profits. For that purpose on Thursday nights ABC airs the program ââ¬Å"wipeoutâ⬠to kick-off the evening. This reality game show has fast gained popularity to an extent that it is the second most watched TV show in the American TV broadcasting. They follow it up with ââ¬Å"Greyââ¬â¢s Anatomyâ⬠, a well renowned serial related to doctors practicing and their issues. A tru ly griping hi-paced drama of common people saving peopleââ¬â¢s lives and complicating their own in the process. This medical drama is followed by a follow-up medical drama named private practice which is a spin-off of greyââ¬â¢s anatomy. A wide variety of household people have a keen interest in every new upcoming episode that is being shown. The people targeted with this include adults and also the ones in the bracket of being grandparents. Do not bold, italicize or underline the subheading. What audiences are they targeting and how? If you compare the first hour of the prime time with other network channels being broadcasted, ABC has created a clever strategy by targeting the young and adult audience by broadcasting wipeout, a funny reality game show whereas the other channels are broadcasting one after the other serious genre serials which are not a huge attraction to children and young alike. After that, they target the sample of audience that is parents and grandparents b racket by airing similar set up medical dramas. Coming to the fact that how did they end up devising a clear edge among the top ranked broadcasters? The answer lies in the post writers strike era, when a new team was formed to sail them out of a storm without a lot of financial blocks crumbling over them and sailed they did. They indeed came out on top of the storm and ended up being the most watched channel according to the post wipeout season ratings. The team had a

Recruitment and Selection Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Recruitment and Selection - Research Paper Example Hence, without the recruitment process, the link between employers and potential employees would not exist. Selection is all about how to make accurate assessments on the weaknesses and strengths of applicants when identifying the person who is highly likely to perform a task more effectively. An excellent description of what selection is all about is provided by Gatewood, Field and Barrick (2010) on page 307. An applicantââ¬â¢s pool may serve as a limiting factor during the selection process because if there are applicants who are not appropriate for the position, the probability that the human resource management team will identify the appropriate applicants is low (Gatewood, Field and Barrick, 2010). The illustration shows the selection process is all about organizations choosing between job candidates. a. The selection process extremely critical in a company is because of its cost efficiency. The selection process makes it easier for companies to operate. When a company hires an unqualified employee, the person may increase the losses incurred because of low productivity from such an employee. The cost of operating with qualified employees tends is more economical than the costs incurred when operating or training unqualified employees. b. Most organizations today are now under the strict observation of the 21st century litigious society. As a result, it has led to many firms protecting themselves against discriminatory lawsuits more critical particularly when the hiring process is ongoing. Hence, the selection process is important because of the legal concerns involved. There are laws such as the Americans with Disability Act which ensure that there are equal opportunities for all candidates during the recruitment process regardless of their race, age, disability, sexual orientation among other differences (Gatewood, Field and Barrick, 2010). c. Lastly, the selection process is important because it promotes screening tools development. The key goal
